Russia - a forgotten market?

East Capital Jacob Grapengiesser

13 April 2016, Jacob Grapengiesser, East Capital's Senior Advisor, commented on the results of the Russian economy in 2015 and the most recent developments in 2016.

"We continue to believe that the Russian market offers attractive upside, but it will be focused to a select number of opportunities. There are of course quite a few businesses not doing well in the current circumstances. A key event to follow will be the dividend announcements from large state-owned enterprises, and whether these will increase payouts in a meaningful way. Even though most funds would be underweight in such names, it would be a major boost to the market and would put Russia back in the spotlight."

Top leaders to Arctic Business Conference in Bodø (25-26 May 2016).

Arctic Business 2016

Among all the existing Arctic fora, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association saw the need for a platform that gathers senior business leaders to discuss both the limitations of and the opportunities for economic growth in the Arctic. The aim has been to invite people with real influence on the development of the region and to forward intentions and discussions into actions and results

Launched in 2013, the Arctic Business initiative is a partnership between Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, DNV GL, Kongsberg and Statoil. It consists of three forums that engage the business community in different ways:

  • a biennial business conference held in Bodø, Norway
  • the high-level, invitation-only Arctic Business Council convening every year in various but relevant locations
  • the permanent Arctic Business Secretariat, based in Bodø, Norway, addressing key issues year-round, coordinating Arctic Business Council initiatives, and developing conference and summit concepts
These arenas provide exclusive international meeting places for business executives representing different industries operating in – or with an interest for – the Arctic.

The Arctic Business mission is to engage, educate and commit the business community to a sustainable development of the Arctic.
