Rolf Baltzersen

Rolf Batlzersen joined the Norwegian Foreign Service in 1972 after having studied Russian language, included Master Studies. After having held several important positions in Brussels, Hague and New Dehli, Baltzersen was appointed Minister Counselor at the Norwegian Embassy in Moscow in the late 1980s. In 1992 Baltzersen was appointed Director of the newly established Secretariat for Eastern Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. In this role, Baltzersen had a challenging task of initiating projects, developing strategies and producing content for an emerging regional cooperation in the Barents Region. Thanks to the activities of the Secretariat many Norwegians got aquianted with the Russian Federation for the first time. After stepping down as a Director of the Secretariat in 1996, Baltzersen served on several positions in the Foreign Service. Baltzersen was awarded NRCC honorary membership in December 2011.
